A unique water park called Morgan’s Inspiration Island opened in San Antonio, Texas, last spring. The park is designed to be enjoyed by people of differing abilities, including people who use wheelchairs. Founder Gordon Hartman named it after his daughter, Morgan, who was born with special needs.

Every attraction at Morgan’s Inspiration Island is wheelchair accessible. Hartman also lends guests special wheelchairs that can get wet. Most automatic wheelchairs use batteries that don’t work in water. Hartman teamed up with engineers to design an automatic wheelchair that doesn’t use batteries. Instead, it contains tanks of air. A person controls the chair by releasing air from the tanks. The air spins motors that power the chair.

Thanks to the waterproof chairs, all kids can splash through the park together this summer.
