Musicians typically perform on a stage. But a recent concert in the Netherlands was held inside a giant plastic bubble! It was part of the Oerol Festival, an arts festival set in a Dutch forest.
The strange structure was kept inflated by a large fan. The bubble’s walls played a part in the performance too, says Kate Moore, the composer who wrote the music. As musicians played, their instruments produced sound waves. The vibrations bounced off the walls, creating hissing sounds.
Because the bubble wasn’t soundproof, noises from nature chimed in as well. “The rain actually sounds fantastic in the bubble,” says Moore.
