For more than 100 years, Girl Scouts have earned badges for skills like archery and cooking. This past summer, the group unveiled 23 new badges for science, technology, and engineering. Now scouts can earn badges for studying animals, building robots, and writing computer code.
Nine-year-old Skylar Everett from California was among the first scouts to earn one of the new badges. Before the badges were released, she and other scouts tried the activities and suggested improvements. Skylar received a Leap Bot Design Challenge badge for building a jumping robot. “It was fun to do,” she says.
