Some LEGO plant pieces are now made from sugarcane!

LEGO® makes 19 billion plastic bricks each year. But this year, the plastic used to make some of the green LEGO pieces will contain a surprising material: a plant called sugarcane!

Most plastic is manufactured from oil. Like all fossil fuels, oil is mined from the ground. Someday, fossil fuels will run out. Unlike oil, sugarcane can be replenished. That makes it a renewable resource.

LEGO aims to make all its bricks from renewable materials by 2030. “The actions we take today have an impact on tomorrow,” says Tim Brooks, a vice president at LEGO.
