Some LEGO plant pieces are now made from sugarcane!

LEGO® makes 19 billion plastic bricks each year. But this year, the plastic used to make some of the green LEGO pieces will contain a surprising material: a plant called sugarcane!

Most plastic is manufactured from oil. Like all , oil is mined from the ground. Someday, fossil fuels will run out. Unlike oil, sugarcane can be replenished. That makes it a renewable resource.

LEGO aims to make all its bricks from renewable materials by 2030. “The actions we take today have an impact on tomorrow,” says Tim Brooks, a vice president at LEGO.
