1. Fold one sheet of construction paper into four sections lengthwise. Tape two edges together to create a four-sided tower.
2. Place the tower on the floor or a long table. With your teacher’s help, use the hair dryer to blow air at your tower from 90 cm away. Record what happens.
3. Think about how you could use the materials to strengthen your tower so that it withstands air from the dryer. Draw your design, then build it.
4. Test your model by blowing air at it from a distance of 90 cm for 10 seconds. Record your observations.
5. If the tower stays standing, slowly move the hair dryer 10 cm (4 in.) closer to the tower at a time. Pause for 10 seconds at each distance and record your observations.
6. How could you improve your design? Modify your tower and repeat Steps 4 and 5.
