Not everyone sees color the same way. About 350 million people worldwide are colorblind. They have a hard time seeing certain colors, like green and red. Recently, the company EnChroma donated special glasses to museums. These glasses help colorblind people see colors in artwork.

In colorblind people, color-processing cells in the eye called cones overlap. This makes some colors look dull and similar to each other. EnChroma glasses filter light so that these colors are bright and distinct. In May 2022, the company donated several pairs of glasses to Art of the Brick exhibits of LEGO sculptures in Chicago and San Francisco.

Owen Yang, age 10, borrowed the glasses in San Francisco. Owen, who is colorblind, can’t see the color red. But with the glasses, he sees bright reds. “When I put the glasses on and looked around, it was amazing how alive everything felt,” he says.
