Crazy Coaster

Buckle up! A record-breaking roller coaster recently opened at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey. The Jersey Devil Coaster is a single-rail roller coaster, which means that its trains run on one rail instead of two. It’s the tallest, fastest, and longest single-rail coaster in the world!

The ride begins with a heart-pounding drop from 13 stories high. Riders plummet down the steel track at 93 kilometers (58 miles) per hour. During the 915 meter (3,000 foot) ride, the train turns upside down three times. Steep drops make riders feel weightless, and tight turns push them into their seats.

These changing forces “give riders a sense of being out of control,” says ride engineer Marc Johnson. “That can make the coaster more exciting and intense.”
